You may have to pay any balances due on your phone or on your account before it can be unlocked by your carrier. It may take a few days to unlock the device.

  • Check for a label under your battery

Most phone numbers can be transferred to Assurance Wireless. If you are working with one of our street representatives, they will assist you. If you are an existing customer, once your Assurance Wireless SIM Card is installed, call us at 1-888-321-5880 to complete the transfer process. In both cases, to get started, you'll need the following information:

  • Previous wireless company name
  • Previous wireless account number
  • Previous account PIN
  • Existing phone number

We recommend backing up your contacts, voicemail and text messages before transferring your number. During the process, you may have dual service for up to 24 hours, meaning your device will be active on both carrier networks. Please do not cancel your previous wireless service until you receive a confirmation text message from Assurance Wireless saying that the number transfer is complete.

SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. The SIM Card is a tiny plastic card with an integrated chip. When you insert it into your device, the SIM Card identifies the device to the network. You'll need an Assurance Wireless SIM Card to connect to our network.

The FCC requires that every device have Wi-Fi capability in order to be used with Lifeline. Unlocked, compatible device & new SIM Card required. Network experience may vary & certain services/features, including MMS & some pre-installed applications, may not function or be available with Assurance Wireless service. Check with your current wireless carrier and warranty to confirm ability to unlock your device.
